The 2001-2002 new Scout year started off with a blast. Thomas J. Kirwin earned his Eagle badge and his ceremony was on September 30, 2001. All of the socuts and parents were invited to it and for those who missed out, you missed a really wonderful ceremony. Tom thanks everyone who attended, especially Mike, Greg, Eric, Matt, Danny and Jesse.
Many thanks to the new adults who have been so active. John Miech has attacked the advancement chairman's job with unparalleled enthusiaam. His board team, Lori Miech (also our teasurer), Judith Hamilton and Mark Banno have jumped into action several times already. Mark is our newest committee chairman and is about to sink his teeth into the job.
We must also greatly appreciate the time and energy put into this by Tom Gambardella, Jim Owens and Curt Abbott. They have spent time with the Scouts at meetings and camping trips that takes them away from family time. With me, it's just my free time but, to them, it's a very big sacrifice. For anyone who wants to be involved, Mark banno will be looking be looking for help with certain committees.
A constant reminder that expectations for Scouts in upper ranks (that's First calss and up) are very high, so be prepared to meet those expectations or don't be expecting a Life or Eagle rank. As I've stated before, Eagle is for the very dedicated (like Tom Kirwin), not the half-dedicated.
Our goal this year will be to keep the younger scouts on track for rank advancement. When you reach the merit badge level, the rest will be up to you. So come to meetngs with the intention to work, not socializing or listening to CD's and wasting time. If you don't want to work for yourself, you will be asked to help the troop by helping with the two younger groups. The Lightning Dragons and Warriors will apprecate it.
Also, it would help if you cared about where you are and what you need in order to advance. Accurate logs will be kept for attendance and leadership positions (to make sure the jobs are being done). Remember, holding a leadership job doesn't matter. How much time you put into it matters.
As always, please take note of our camping schedule and please know in advance if you are going so we can arrange transportation.
