YAWGOOG 2001

Once again, Troop 183 had a wonderful week in Sleepy Hollow. The highlight of the week came on Sunday, when we received the honor of being Point Troop of the Week, the highest Scout spirit award in Camp Three Point. The boys worked very hard this year and it paid off!

We had a total of 12 boys advance in rank this summer. Four of our Warriors received the rank of Scout; six Lightning Dragons advanced to Tenderfoot; and two Phantoms advanced to First Class.

We also placed quite well in the competitions this summer:

• WE CAME IN FIRST PLACE IN THE VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT FOR THE FIRST TIME!!
• We earned second place in the Swim Carnival.
• We again came in second in the Bake-off with a chocolate cake concoction.
• We came in second in the Scavenger Hunt.
• We came in third in the Costume Contest with our "Dead Body Outline and Two Detectives".
• We placed sixth in the Road Race (our best in many years) with a very good run by Matt Owens).
• Robert Smiht received the highly distinguished J. Harold Williams award for all of Three Point (way to go, Rob!)

We had fun as well, as we always do while at summer camp. Several of the older Scouts completed the Adventure II course at the Challenge Center. The Warriors learned about wild edibles from the Nature Center staff on a wild edibles hike, and the Phantom patrol inadvertently earned their Hiker of Yawgoog trails by hiking two different trails from the ones they had filed as their hike plan. In doing this they wound up hiking the last two trails needed for their segemnt! Talk about serendipity!!
